Blogs is now in beta!

crossposted from my facebook blog

Wow...

So, it took a very, very long time. An unreasonable amount of time. But Blogs is finally open for testing by everyone, and I sincerely hope that all the stuff that I assume works actually does.

It's far from finished. There's still tie-lines to implement, friend tagging, some layout cleanup, and communal blogs; but considering everything, it's come out fantastically well, and I'm very proud of it.

So get blogging, people, so we can sort out the bugs and make this app the best it can be.

Gaze upon it, ye mighty, and despair.

For with it I am leeter than thou art, and than thou shall ever be.

be the change you want to see

(Crossposted at canadablogsyou.)

So, there was SIDEPART '06 (best forgotten, I think we can agree) and BEARD '07, but now I'm at something of a loss for what to do about this vestigial monkey-coat on my head. I'm seriously considering shaving it all off. What do you think?

mayday mayday mayday (we're already dead)

COULD IT BE?

I think there's been a lot of hype about the iPhone, but seriously, it is a fantastic phone. I wouldn't abandon a working phone for it, or sign up for some deal that screws me over, but luckily (a) my phone is dying, and (b) it looks like we're going to have unlocked iPhones anyway.

Forget basically everything you have ever heard about Adelaide. It's actually really nice here, spacious, temperate, clean. The people are friendly and generally helpful (except at the airport, where I am now, but I challenge you to find an airport with helpful staff), and the food is invariably delicious. I don't know what it is about SA produce but it's all fucking fantastic.

So, there, I said it. I like Adelaide. I especially like the free wireless at the airport, which I have been abusing since the moment I got here (two and a half hours early thanks to a booking mishap.) So far I've downloaded the Wombats album and half a Scrubs episode.

We are probably going to NZ for the ski trip but Adrian, who was supposed to organising, is aggressively lazy or working or something, so I'm going to end up doing it again, no doubt.

the clouds in your eyes: down your face they pour

"Did you know," queries a CityRail poster, one morning at Roseville, waiting for a train that is probably not coming, "did you know that a sick passenger at Berowra can affect trains to Blacktown?"

"Outrageous!" the intended target (a commuter) is supposed to think. "Those two places are very far apart!"

A quick glance at the CityRail network map will reveal that the two stations are on a connected line, the yellow North Shore/Western line, in spite of their considerable distance. Still, the poster implies that, under the new Rail Clearways scheme, such an injustice will not occur.

One quick glance at the Rail Clearways map later, and an addendum should be added to the poster:
"Did you know that a sick passenger at Berowra can affect trains to Blacktown?
Well, under Rail Clearways, that will still happen! In fact, it will now also affect trains to Epping, Strathfield, and the new Epping-Chatswood line! Why? Because Rail Clearways plans to merge the Northern, North Shore and Western Lines (both branches) into one of the five 'clearways'. That's everything north (and just south) of the Parramatta River, and more than a third of CityRail's total metropolitan mileage!"

But I guess then the poster would be too big.

self-improvement #5

Oh my god, a zillion points to whoever wrote this.

There was an old man
From Peru, whose lim'ricks all
Look'd like haiku. He

Said with a laugh "I
Cut them in half, the pay is
Much better for two."

Bassoon Hero

Even though Christmas, and even New years has passed I have yet to get a Wii. This is tragic.

Also tragic was the Opera "La Boheme" which I saw shortly before Matt's party, and it was an intensely interesting experience. For those of you who were born last century or more recently it is an opera about 4 bohemians living in Paris, two of whom fall in love and the other two provide light comic relief. The musical rent (and later lease) was based on it. The production was very good. The sets were really really good, having a lot of useable material and very little clutter and use the props the singers (Actors? They were really both. I am sure there is a name for them) did. One scene was particularly good as some of them danced around with a bright red beanbag and pretended it was a woman. Or something. I really couldn't tell because I can neither speak nor sing italian and the subtitles were occluded by the mezzanine on our particular seats. Oh and it is tragic because the main chick dies. Morgan says it was syphillis but my mum says it was tuberculosis. I demand that they fight. Winner takes all.

Matts party was excellent as usual, even though I was only there for a short time.

Having a car was much more fun than anticipated. Over the past couple of days I have been what can only be described as "Refitting" it. I didn't actually replace any solid components but the "before" and "After" pictures are sufficiently different to warrant the term, as they are dissimilar not only by appearance but also by base substance. I have alchemically transmuted my 21 year old granny wagon into something resembling a car.

This mostly involved getting a whole lot of stuff out of the boot, vacuuming with epic movements and putting some coolant in the cooling system, which it apparently had lacked for a while. Disturbing.

For my next trick I will develop a bold new console game that shares a name with this post. It will be classically heroic.

And for those who track my movements like a mouse in a maze I will be heading to Wollongong for a couple of days in said former granny wagon. Au revoir!

Inane posts don't need titles

Compare: No, she's a girl and girl doesn't start with the letter W
Girl: Ahhhhh!
Cookie monster: But she is wet and wet does start with the letter W
Compare: Congradulation cookie monster, you've won a pile of cookies!!!

Was this deliberate?

Also, W's favourite W word is windy.  He was afraid it would blow you away.
